We seek to create doctors of the highest caliber. Doctors graduating from Ramaiah Medical College are well informed by sound, technical training and inculcated with ethics and the values of professionalism. This is possible by providing an effective learning environment through proper infrastructure, trained faculty and adoption of global innovative medical education techniques.

Practice
The Institution has a strong Medical Education Unit (MEU) which has nationally as well as internationally trained faculty in the ?eld of medical education. The unit also has faculty from all medical disciplines.

Training
MEU members have been trained under the Regional Training Centre (as per NMC guidelines) in the Basic and Advanced courses in medical education. They have also been trained under the National Teacher Training Centre, JIPMER, Pondicherry and the FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research).
Programmes
Faculty Development Programme
Under the guidelines of NMC, the department conducts BCME (Basic Course in Medical Education) for the medical college faculty (17 institutions attached) on a regular basis after approval of the regional training center and NMC. The Basic course is aimed to train faculty on Goals and competencies, educational domains and objectives, teaching learning methods and Assessment methods in medical education. Institutional level faculty development programs are held regularly.
In-House Workshops
The faculty is constantly encouraged to use effective and updated teaching techniques taught in these workshops. These include methods like e-learning, simulation, standardized patients, small group teaching, advances in assessment methods, educational research, etc. Expert faculties are invited to deliver workshops.
International Collaboration
Collaboration exists with UIC (University of Illinois Chicago). Medical Education Unit and Curriculum Committee members have been trained by international faculty in medical educational aspects - standardized patients, e-learning, simulation, professionalism.
Interns And Post Graduate Training Programme
Interns and postgraduates are exposed to lateral learning of medico-legal issues, Bio medical waste management, hospital safety and communication skills, basic life support, neonatal resuscitation, ethics and communication skills, research methodology, journal review
Mentorship Programme
An important part of the student support mechanism, this programme puts in place an effective mentor-mentee system and offers students support, guidance and encouragement.
Peer Evaluation
The MEU organizes evaluation of faculty members by peers, providing feedback to the faculty and inputs to the administrators.

There is a system in place for obtaining and compiling student feedback about faculty members.
Foundation Course
Undergraduate students, once enrolled, go through foundation course & training programme aimed at sensitizing them about adult learning principles, time and stress management, health scenario of the country, respect to patients, etc for the duration of 175 hours. The Program concludes with a formal white coat ceremony.
Assesment
In order to ensure effective teaching-learning processes, a 360° feedback mechanism has been put in place. All teachers undergo an annual peer evaluation process with feedback, thus maintaining the standards we strive for. Student evaluation of the teachers and course content is done annually. This ensures a continuous development and improvisation of course content and teaching- learning methods. In order to be exposed to international standards of education, the Institution has provided a platform for faculty and student exchange in the form of scholarships and summer schools for students. MEU encourages all faculties to continuously innovate, research and develop newer, more effective teaching-learning technologies to bene?t the students.
Library - Journals And Books
178 Medical education related books and 9 journals (Foreign journals: Academic Medicine, Medical Education, The Clinical Teacher, BMC Medical Education, Advances in Medical Education and Practice. Indian journals: Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, Education and Research, Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development, Journal of Health Management) are available in the library.
Publication And Research In Medical Education
Research projects are taken up, including qualitative research. There are a number of publications on educational technology.
