The Department of Anaesthesiology, Ramaiah Medical College and Hospitals consists of exceptionally skilled and compassionate faculty who thrive to provide the best standard of care in the peri-operative period extending on to the early post-operative period.
The Department of Anesthesiology comprises of a dedicated team of 25 highly competent, exceptionally skilled and compassionate doctors, whose prime focus is on achieving high standards of care in the perioperative period. Equipped with state of the art operating rooms and highly advanced anesthesia armamentarium, we attempt to make your surgical stay comfortable and pain free.
The department of Anesthesiology has been at the forefront of Clinical and Academic Activities since inception in 1985. Our team comprises of a enthusiastic group of highly competent, exceptionally skilled and compassionate perioperative physicians, whose prime focus is on achieving high standards of care in the perioperative period and training future Anaesthesiologists.
We are equipped with 21 State of the Art operating rooms with highly advanced anaesthesia equipment and monitors to make the patient’s surgical stay comfortable and pain free. Anaesthesia services are extended to all broad and clinical super-specialties ranging from simple to complex Open surgical procedures, Obstetric& gynaecological surgeries, Paediatric Surgery, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeries, Major Oncological surgeries including HIPEC, maxillofacial and reconstructive surgeries , cosmetic surgeries , Arthroscopic, Joint replacement and Trauma surgery, Minimally Invasive Spine and Spinal Deformity Correction , Urology including Renal Transplant surgery , Eye surgeries and Laser surgery.
We also provide Non-Operating Room Anaesthesia(NORA) like Endoscopic procedures including ERCP, EUS and EBUS , Interventional Radiological Procedures and Radiotherapy Procedures.
A widespread Cardio thoracic anaesthesia training including percutaneous Cath lab procedures, open heart surgeries and even Heart Transplant. An advanced Neuro Anaesthesia Training manned by Neuro Anaesthestists encompassing Awake Craniotomy, DBS Surgery and interventional neuro-radilogical procedures. A dedicated Pain Clinic dispensing to all aspects of Acute and Chronic pain management with the advanced facilities for Interventional and Non-Interventional treatment options.
We also comprise in our armamentarium technologically advanced gadgets such as Video-Laryngoscopy, Fibre-Optic Bronchoscopes ,Ultrasound Machine to perform Nerve Blocks, Vascular Access and Point of Care Ultrasound . Compatible monitors and equipment for Invasive Monitoring and Infusion pumps for Accurate delivery of Anaesthetic and Lifesaving drugs are also available. For post-operative pain management, Patient Controlled Analgesia Pumps and Elastomeric pumps for controlled delivery of pain medications are available.
The department consists well-equipped seminar room for conduct of Academic activities. The department library has a large collection of Books, Journals and Research Project database both in Broad speciality and Subspecialty branches. We also active in undertaking faculty research projects in addition to thesis/dissertation-oriented research, morbidity meets, active audit system which have resulted in publications in many National and International journals.
Highlights
- The Department has to its credit of having been one of the First Medical colleges to start specialty anaesthesia clinical services and training facilities in the State.
- The Department is credited with starting an exclusive Critical Care Facility with 8 ventilator beds in 1992, which over the years has branched out into a department with over 100 beds.
- The Department was among the first to start a round the clock Labour Analgesia programme in 1997, which has now progressed to a full-fledged and much in demand service providing pain free labour to numerous happy and satisfied mothers.
- We are also one the first Medical Colleges to start a dedicated Pain Clinic in 2006 catering to acute and Chronic Pain Management.
- Advanced Learning Centre started in 2012, with state of the art Cadaver and Simulation Lab for training of faculty and residents and also for conduct of International/ National Level workshops.
- We have inculcated safe anaesthesia Practice with Standard Operating Procedure Guidelines and Monitoring Quality Indicators while constantly keeping pace with the advances.
- We celebrate World Anaesthesia Day celebration on 16th October every year with activities like Essay writing, Pros & Cons debate, Posters for Public, Treasure Hunt - Anaesthesia Post Graduates and Quiz competition - Interns and Non anaesthesia postgraduates.
- We want to in future start Fellowship program in Regional Anaesthesia and Onco Anaesthesia.
- We want to be a Centre of Excellence providing integrated, structured and modular training to render safe & high quality health care with a humane approach.
Message From The HoD
According to dictionary definition Anaesthesia means condition of not feeling pain. In fact, Anaesthesiology involves integration of the anatomical, pathophysiological, medical and surgical knowledge in totality to maintain normal physiology during the peri-operative period in addition to making the process pain free. The job of Anaesthesiologists encompasses the umbrella of care in the perioperative period
