About DoB
The Department of Biochemistry not only seeks to advance the understanding of chemical compounds and processes
that constitute health and disease and, underlie the transformations between these two states in the human body but also contributes towards patient care in the Diagnostic Laboratory. Along with Anatomy and Physiology, during the first year of MBBS, it forms the foundation of basic medical sciences.
The teaching of Biochemistry focuses on the structure, function and complex biochemical interactions of cellular components and bio-molecules as well as integrates the application of this knowledge in a clinical scenario both in health and disease. The Biochemistry section of the Diagnostic laboratory is NABL accredited, endowed with state of the art facilities, latest equipment, skilled laboratory personnel and offers round the clock services in an effort to provide quality health care service to patients.
Highlights
The department conducts :-
- Training of First MBBS Students-The department encourages small group discussions/interactions especially during the practical sessions. This enables students to understand concepts and orients them towards planning and pursuing research projects.
- Participates in integrated teaching sessions and electives during the entire duration of MBBS Course- an effort to provide clinical relevance and correlations to Biochemistry knowledge and to invite clinicians to discuss case scenarios that integrate and highlight the role of biochemical mechanisms in health and causation of certain diseases is made.
- Training of MD Biochemistry Postgraduate students
- Training of Postgraduates of other departments
- Teaching of BDS, MDS, BPT, BSc. Nursing, PBBSc. Nursing students.
- The Department has been consistently been getting excellent results in MBBS and MD Biochemistry RGUHS university exams- MBBS- pass percentage (approximately 96%), Distinctions (approximately 40%) and First classes(approximately 40%), MD Biochemistry - 100% pass percentage and University ranks(within the top 10 ranks) every year.
- The Biochemistry section of the Diagnostic laboratory not only contributes towards quality patient care by offering top quality diagnostic solutions but also offers a plethora of learning opportunities to students to correlate and integrate basic science and clinical knowledge.

Message From The HoD
Contrary to the traditional belief that Biochemistry is a subject in Medicine that only deals with structures and pathways, in the present world, Biochemistry focuses on the relevance of each process that takes place in the body to growth, health and the causation of Disease. It is a field that allows a person to integrate metabolic interactions taking place in the body with the occurrences in health and disease.
