General Medicine is a specialization that is concerned with the diagnosis and comprehensive medical care to all the patients presenting with common medical problems like infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, nutrition and environmental diseases with compassion and evidence-based approach.
Classroom
The department has a spacious, well equipped PG seminar room which can accommodate 80 people. Seminar room has all the modern Audio-visual aids, Wifi connection and air conditioners.
Ward
The in-patient wards are well built and ventilated and have all the necessary requirements to ensure patient safety as well as comfort. There are general wards, sharing wards and well as special wards.
OPD
The OPD of General Medicine department is spacious and has sufficient consultation rooms, demonstration room, ECG room, injection room and speciality OPD room. The OPD has all the requirements as per the statutory bodies and patient safety protocols.
Acute Medical Ward
Acute medical ward has 40 beds and is well equipped to manage medically vulnerable patients who need close monitoring. All the beds have monitors and all the services required for managing critically ill patients are available.
Geriatrics OPD
The department of General Medicine has an active and vibrant Geriatric unit which has dedicated services for older adults. The Geriatric unit was started in 2007 and provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and holistic care to elderly people. The unit has specialists, specialized OPD and in-patient geriatric services. The key areas of focus in the geriatric units include a focus on improving functional status, early mobilization, frailty assessment, nutrition, prevention and treatment of chronic illness. The staff of the unit strives to provide medical care to the older patients with utmost empathy and compassion with due respect to their emotional needs, autonomy and respect to their feelings.
The unit also has dedicated doctors for geriatric ophthalmology, ENT, Dental and physiotherapy services. The Geriatric services are available at concession prices. The unit has special programs like Geriatric immunizations, Inter-disciplinary geriatric rehabilitation. The geriatric unit provides ample of opportunities for training and geriatric research work for residents in Geriatric care. Geriatric unit is a part of PG Diploma in Geriatrics which is run by Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU). The unit also has a telemedicine project run by ICMR and FORTE SWEDON.
