Paediatric department was started in the year 1979. The Paediatric department, one of the four main pillars over which the clinical edifice of the Ramaiah Medical College is built upon, is an integral part of the medical college since its inception in 1979.

The department takes great pride in the standards and stature of the department at present. The department offers quality education to medical undergraduates, post graduates in paediatrics as well as fellowship programme in Neonatology (new born care) and IAP fellowship in paediatric critical care.

Advanced methodical learning and optimized learning leads to better-trained doctors. Such teaching typically comprises the illustration of features and access to facilities. in this regard, our department have several speciality clinics enabling for improved training and aims to provide a comprehensive deliver of optimal care to our children.

Highlights

  • The department has pioneered research activity in the area of Childhood Diarrhea and work on epidemiology of rotavirus infections.
  • It organises activities like Neonatal Week, ORS Week and Adolescent Week. It also coordinates in conducting the annual Indian Academy of Pediatrics Undergraduate Quiz.
  • Undergraduate students are trained in Integrated Management and Neonatal Childhood Illness (IMNCI) as well as assessment of sick infants.
  • The department has been awarded the status of Level II Special Neonatal Care Centre by National Neonatology Forum to train Pediatricians and nurses in Neonatal Intensive Care.
  • We have a well-equipped Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), managed by a Neonatologist and Critical Care Intensivist.
  • The Fellowship Programme in Perinatal Medicine is conducted by this Department as a one-year course.
  • Apart from standard methods like bedside teaching, the department also uses role-play and model-making for training.
  • Residents work closely with the faculty, learning through OPD rounds, observation and discussions. The department also participates in various external conferences, which the PGs attend as delegates.
  • The department works closely with neurology, physiotherapy, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology.

Message From The HoD

The department of pediatrics in Ramaiah has three decades history of providing the best clinical care to the children. The department started with three faculties and grown over the years with around 20 faculty at present. We have four units in the department with very well trained staff in each of the units. We have state of art NICU level III A and PICU facilities.
