Department of Psychiatry is a multidisciplinary department consisting of Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurses and Psychiatric social workers.At present Psychiatry Department has out -patients clinics in Ramaiah Teaching Hospital and Ramaiah Memorial Hospital. It has a 30-bedded Inpatient set up in the Medical College Teaching Hospital. The Department extends its support and services for students and staff of Ramaiah Institutions, and provides Psychiatry services in a PHC as a part of national and District mental health programme on Tuesdays. The department also runs extra mural clinics in association with Non-Governmental Agencies.

Department is actively involved in providing psychiatric services in other departments through Consultation liaison Psychiatry. Special clinics on child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction medicine, psycho motor clinics, geriatric psychiatry, clinics for transgender and suicide prevention clinics are regularly run by the department.

The faculty in the department are excellent academicians and are also research oriented. They are actively involved in clinical training of medical interns and postgraduates in psychiatry enrolled under our institute. The department has collaborations with external universities and provides observership training for medical students from Indian and Foreign universities. It also provides a structured observership and internship programme for psychology students.
