The department of Respiratory Medicine, M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru deals with the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure of respiratory diseases. We provide a variety of facilities for the diagnosis of respiratory diseases.

Spirometry

Spirometry is a common test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale. It is used to diagnose Asthma, COPD and restrictive diseases.

DLCO (Diffusion Capacity of Lungs for Carbon Monoxide)

DLCO measures the transfer of CO across the alveolar-capillary membrane. DLCO can be used in identification and assessment of wide range of disease processes affecting lung parenchyma, and pulmonary vascular bed. Over 150 pulmonary function tests (Spirometry + DLCO) have been done in our department in a month. A sleep study (polysomnography) is a non-invasive overnight test that allows doctors to monitor you while you sleep, to ascertain sleep related disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. On an average, 4-5 PSGs are done in a month

Bronchoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

are minimally invasive, but effective procedures used to diagnose tuberculosis, lung cancer, and other diseases when patients come up with lung mass or enlarged lymph nodes on imaging.

EBUS
Medical Thoracoscopy

Medical Thoracoscopy/ Pleuroscopy

It is a minimally invasive procedure that allows access to pleural space using a combination of viewing and working instruments. It also allows for basic diagnostic (undiagnosed pleural fluid or pleural thickening) and therapeutic procedures (Adhesiolysis or Pleurodesis) to be performed safely. Over 30 interventional pulmonology procedures are done in a month.
