Vascular and endovascular surgery is a branch of surgery dealing with all blood vessels in the body except in the heart and brain. It involves all modalities starting from vascular medicine, open surgical care and endovascular techniques including angioplasty, stenting and newer modalities including stem cell therapy.

The fundamental basis of vascular surgery is limb salvage in patients with peripheral artery disease and diabetic foot.
Endovascular Techniques
It includes angioplasty, stenting and treatment of varicose veins and thrombosis of arteries and veins.
Angiology
Another important subdivision in the field is angiology, phlebology and lymphology dealing with all aspects of the circulatory system. The pathologies of the arteries and veins in the abdomen and chest including aortic aneurysms, aortic and iliac occlusions and opening blockages in the vessels to the kidneys, intestine and the liver.

An important part of department care is comprehensive wound management including all types of extremity wounds and ulcer and complex wound care.
Vascular Transplant
An evolving role is also present in vascular surgeons in transplant care with need for complex vessel reconstructions. In the chest we take care of the dilatations of the major vessels in the chest. An important area of care is helping patients with kidney diseases requiring hemodialysis with access including arteriovenous fistula, grafts and catheters. And we also try to salvage the fistula in case they get blocked or function reduced.

In the neck we mainly are involved in stroke prevention surgeries involved in repairing the arteries to supply the brain.
