  • As part of their posting, PG residents of MD in General Medicine spend 15-30 days in this department. During this posting they get to observe cases in the OPD, participate in work-ups, and obtain prescriptions for the patients.
  • For DM in Endocrinology residents, combined teaching with other departments like Pathology and Radiology is an important aspect of training.
  • Residents have access to state-of-the-art infrastructure meant for ultrasound scans, nuclear scans and PET scans.
  • The Department of Endocrinology features facilities that can support some specialised tests that very few places offer. This makes it a well-known referral centre where patients come from across India.

The facilities in the department include –

  • Dynamic laboratory testing for growth hormone deficiency and adrenal insufficiency.
  • Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) body fat analysis to measure the percentage of the body fat at various sites.
  • Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scan to measure bone density and diagnose osteoporosis.
  • State-of-the-art diabetic foot care clinic with qualified podiatrist, plastic surgeons and vascular surgeons.
  • Coordination with the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition for customised diet plan for diabetes and obesity.
  • Patient education regarding home glucose monitoring with glucometers and insulin delivery devices.
