PAEDIATRICS

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with medical care of infants, children and adolescents.

The department has pioneered research activity in the area of Childhood Diarrhea and work on epidemiology of rotavirus infections.
It organises activities like Neonatal Week, ORS Week and Adolescent Week. It also coordinates in conducting the annual Indian Academy of Pediatrics Undergraduate Quiz.
Undergraduate students are trained in Integrated Management and Neonatal Childhood Illness (IMNCI) as well as assessment of sick infants.
The department has been awarded the status of Level II Special Neonatal Care Centre by National Neonatology Forum to train Pediatricians and nurses in Neonatal Intensive Care.
The Fellowship Programme in Perinatal Medicine is conducted by this Department as a one-year course.
Apart from standard methods like bedside teaching, the department also uses role-play and model-making for training.
Residents work closely with the faculty, learning through OPD rounds, observation and discussions. The department also participates in various external conferences, which the PGs attend as delegates.
The department works closely with neurology, physiotherapy, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology.
It has a well-equipped Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), which is managed by a Neonatologist and Critical Care Intensivist.
