Dr. K. Lalitha, MD, DNB, MIPHA, MAMS, Professor and Head of Community Medicine in MSRMC has done her graduation and post-graduation from KIMS, Bangalore. Her research areas of interest are Health care waste management (HCWM), Geriatrics, Tuberculosis and Immunization. 

She has implemented several Implementations, Academic and operational research projects as PI and co-PI funded by ICMR and RGUHS. She was the co-investigator for ICMR funded adhoc project on Establishment of Population Based Rural Stroke Registry in India. As PI, she has completed “Epidemiology of Disability among elderly in an urban and rural area for development of feasible model of care - An exploratory study” and “Validation of reporting of adverse drug reactions under PVP of RNTCP in BBMP area – A mixed method approach” funded by RGUHS and RNTCP respectively.

She is currently heading 4 ICMR funded projects as PI. As PI, she is conducting two implementation research projects on TB- Feasibility study of integrating NTEP with RBSK and Effect of Tailored implementation strategy for TPT Coverage. She is also PI for a project to study the impact of cOVID on NTEP and also establishment of post covid registry in rural and urban area. She has more than 30 publications in National and International Journals to her credit.

She is a recipient of Young scientist and KACH Millennium award from Karnataka Association of Community Health; and fellowship of Indian Public Health Association.  She has been awarded the Member of the Academy by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

She is the co-ordinator of HHCWM Cell, member of HICC committee and Programme-in-charge for the certificate course on HCWM by IGNOU. She has conducted several training programmes and workshop on BMW.

As one of the coordinators, she was instrumental in implementation of the GEF/UNIDO/GOI training component of the project “Environmentally Sound management of Medical waste in India”, in five states in the country.

Her hobbies are Music and Travelling.
