Dr. Sanjay C. Desai is the third child of Late. Mr. C. M. Desai and Mrs. Nagalambike Desai born in Feb 1969 at Bangalore. After his schooling he joined the Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore and completed his undergraduate course in 1992. He obtained his postgraduate degree in General Surgery from the same institution in 1996 and Vascular Surgery in 2000. He completed his Fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery from the prestigious Cologne University (Germany), National University Hospital (Singapore) & Stanford University (USA) between 2001 & 2005.
Being a dynamic and magnetic personality, he rose up not only in the positions as a faculty member but also in popularity amongst colleagues and students, and went on to head the department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Ramaiah Medical College in 2007, a position he is holding till date.
Being enterprising, he took the initiative in starting the first M. Ch training course in Vascular Surgery in Karnataka, which was approved by the Indian Medical Council, in 2011. Acknowledging his significant contribution to the field of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, he was awarded the fellowship by Vascular Society of India in 2015.
He became a member of Association of Surgeons of India and Surgical Society. Bangalore soon after his return from abroad and participated in all its activities. He is an active member of the Vascular Society of India and was in the Executive Committee for two terms and successfully conducted the World Federation of Vascular Societies & Annual National Vascular Conference at Bengaluru in 2016. He is the Present Secretary of Venous Association of India. He was the Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Vascular Surgery from November 2014 to 2017 and now is the Consultant Editor. He has published more than 60 papers & has contributed chapters in three text books. He has been very active in Promoting & Teaching Vascular Surgery and has delivered invited Guest Lecture and Seminars across the Country. He has organized many Workshops and Hands on Training for Young Surgeons.
He was on the Board of Superspeciality Committee of Rajiv Gandhi University from October 2014 and helped shaping the Vascular Curriculum & Teaching Programme. He has been on the Institutional Regulatory Board from 2013 to 2019. He is on the Ramaiah Hospitals Advisory Board Since 2014. He is currently the Director of Ramaiah Advanced Learning Centre a one of its kind Learning Center in the Country with International Standard Facilities for Cadaveric Hands on, Mannequin & Simulator Based Learning.
He is a Keen Researcher and has been the Primary Investigator in more than 15 Global Clinical trials involving DVT, Stem Cell, Thrombolytic and Critical Limb Ischemia. He is currently working on “Fist Assist” a patented device for Vein Maturation.
He is a family man, married to Mrs. Neeta and have a daughter Ms. Navya who is pursuing Masters in Psychology. He enjoys Trekking and Farming and lives on Nature.
