Emergency Medicine (EM) is relatively a new specialty in medicine and is expanding at a phenomenal pace throughout the globe.
The government and national medical council have recognized the need to develop systems that respond to acute medical and surgical emergencies.
India has entered the race in ensuring citizens have access to emergency care in defined emergency departments across the country.
Thus, emergency medicine is a unique independent specialty with training models different from standard traditional didactic teaching, to help students in achieving emergency medicine core knowledge, competencies, and skills to respond to these life-threatening events with confidence. Ramaiah was among the first few medical colleges to introduce this world class emergency teaching and training program to meet the nation’s large demand for these healthcare providers.
The logistics of work, the shift pattern of work, environment in real-time dynamic uncontrolled situations, ensuring availability of teaching faculty 24/7, adhering to quality-controlled teaching and training is some of the biggest challenge we have overcome. With MCI approved MD Post Graduate Program in Emergency Medicine, Ramaiah Medical College is geared up to train 4 Postgraduates per year. The newly opened EMD facility in 2010, houses the Emergency Department with 40 beds exclusively for EMD. It has a well-equipped Triage, Resuscitation bays, minor OT, emergency OT, Recovery room, post-operative ICU, Emergency IUC. It also has no of number of inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care beds and operating suites for the sub and super-specialties.

Our state-of-the-art Department of Emergency Medicine at Ramaiah Memorial hospital is geared up to serve you 24 x7 x 365. Our team of trained and certified Emergency Medicine specialists are available round the clock. We will ensure high-quality timely care is delivered to all acutely ill and injured patients. We are constantly striving to provide you and your loved ones with comprehensive clinical, laboratory and radiological evaluation in our Emergency Room. Our Emergency Medicine team actively collaborates with other specialists and super-specialists seamlessly to provide the best care for our patients. The emergency departments have designated triage, resuscitation bays and emergency observation unit are equipped with remote monitoring systems, resuscitation resources and ventilators. To address surgical and trauma emergencies withing the golden hour, advanced minor and major operation theatres are also available round the clock. In addition to our emergency medicine specialists, our team of certified nurses and paramedics provide competent care by adhering to international standards and protocols. An important component of our team is the fleet of basic and advanced ambulances managed by trained paramedics. We believe communication is the key skill of every healthcare provider. All Patients and their families will be provided information and counselling from arrival to the time the patient is transfer out.
