Department of Radiology

Department of Radiodiagnosis was started in the Medical College Teaching hospital in the year 1996 October with one consultant Dr. Srinath and one Radiographer Mr. Israel.

We are now a full-fledged department consisting of 16 consultants, 24 supporting staff in the teaching hospital and 23 in the memorial hospital. There is an annual intake of 14 post graduate students for the MD course.

We are proud to say that our department has the state of the art equipment’s for various Imaging Modalities.

Our wide array of machines enable us to perform a diverse range of imaging and procedures which include: Routine Radiography, Procedures under fluoroscopy, Mammography and Sonomammography, Obstetric ultrasonography, ultrasonological assessment of the abdomen and pelvis, various Doppler studies, Cross sectional studies with Computed tomography & Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Looking ahead we aim at acquisition of a fully equipped 3T MRI with all software’s, Digital Radiography, Interventional radiology lab, PET- CT, 32 slice CT for the trauma unit at Memorial Hospital, Multiple fellowships in various sub-specialties & Evolving into an institute of imaging sciences

Undergraduate Programs

MBBS – As part of the CBME curriculum we dedicate 12 hours of theory class annually for the Phase II undergraduate students along with 12 hours of clinical posting. There are about 6 interns are posted for a duration of 14 days in various modalities at both the hospitals.

B.Sc in Medical Imaging has started in the year 2021 with a total of 30 students per batch from 2nd and 3rd year that are trained in radiography and nuclear imaging at both hospitals. We have interns posted here annually at both hospitals.

Postgraduate Programs

We have an annual intake of 14 students for the MD course. Teacher to student ratio - 1:3. Teaching program is conducted on all working days and discussions are strongly encouraged. We possess a fully equipped seminar room with a projector for presentations and a light box for film reading.

  • Subject seminars
  • Film Reading
  • Journal Club
  • Signs presentations
  • Intra- and interdepartmental case presentations
  • Pedagogy
  • Symposium
  • Review articles
  • Clinico-radiological meets
  • Thesis review
  • Internal assessments in theory and practical
  • Pass percentage of approximately 88 %
